Avatar Trailer from James Cameron a Flop
Highly hyped and anticipated trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar was released this morning and I have to say I’m not impressed whatsoever. Played with just a score (that’s very annoying to my ears) and no sound effects this has to be one of the worst trailers I’ve seen in quite some time. From what I gather the movie is about blue creature things in a military lab that probably get out somehow and then fly on dragons and attack marine looking humans. The special effects look okay in their own way, although slightly cartoony compared to recently released movies.
After seeing a few of the stills, some weeks back, I had been anticipating this trailer and had been planning on putting in a plug for this movie here, now I don’t even know if I’ll see this movie. James Cameron is really going to have to bust his ass to get some positive hype going for this film or it’s going to be a huge box office disappointment, especially when considering the kind of budget Cameron is usually working with.
Even their targeted demographic is way off. The movie poster catch phrase reads “From the director of Titanic”… really? Why not “From the director of Alien” or “From the director of Terminator”. Maybe the 12-year-old preteen girl demographic has some strange blue alien fetish that Fox is attempting to play into.
Regardless, trailers are meant to educate the movie-going public as to what the movie is about… and I am at a loss. After viewing this I still have no idea what this movie is about and not even in an interesting way (as done by Cloverfield trailers). With Cloverfield I would anxiously wait until new trailers were released to try and find more information about the film. I couldn’t give 2 shits about whatever happens to this movie.
Filmmakers take note, don’t release trashy trailers. Don’t look for this in theaters December 18th, 2009.

Avatar had to be the greatest movie since Star Wars.
